8 Reasons The Xbox One Will Dominate The PS4 In 2016

1. DirectX 12 Could Make Xbox One More Powerful Than The PS4

Until now, DirectX have been of little concern to the console gamer. Even though the Xbox has always prided itself on supporting DirectX (it's named after, after all), it never received major updates to the performance-boosting APIs. That's all about to change now that the Xbox One is jumping over to Windows 10, which means it'll also be getting DirectX 12, the latest, biggest DX update yet. How much DirectX 12 boosts performance on the Xbox One isn't yet clear. That will only become apparent when DX 12-compatible games start launching. On the PC, however, early DX 12 tests showed AMD graphics cards to get huge 20-30% boosts to gaming performance. If the Xbox One's AMD GPU gets even half of that, then that could help it edge out the PS4 in terms of performance. Microsoft announced earlier this year that over 100 developers were working on DX 12, which would improve textures, lighting, shading and frame-rates on both PC and Xbox one. Phil Spencer, however, was a little more coy, saying that DX 12 "wouldn't dramatically change the graphics capabilities of Xbox One". Here's hoping that Spencer's just managing the high expectations that Microsoft previously set, and that the first major DirectX update for an Xbox console proves to be a strong one. Where are you on the console war front? Firmly entrenched in Camp PS4, or up for seeing what Microsoft has to offer? Let us know in the comments!
