8 Reasons The Xbox One Will Dominate The PS4 In 2016
2. Cross-Platform Multiplayer With PC Players
Playing with your buddies between different gaming systems is a dream that has only vaguely pursued by consoles up to now. There was that weird one-off PS3/Steam alliance for Portal 2 which allowed for cross-platform co-op, along with a few other experiments in this field, but Xbox One's uptake of Windows 10 could change the game completely. Thanks to Windows 10, it'll be much easier for developers to add cross-platform multiplayer support between PC and Xbox One. A few games have already been confirmed to support it, including the eagerly anticipated Fable: Legends and cartoony shooter Gigantic. The impending arrival of keyboard and mouse support on Xbox One will also negate the disadvantage of a gamepad in online shooters, which should encourage even more developers to jump onboard. Aside from allowing for awesome Xbox-vs-PC-showdowns, there is a much bigger benefit to all this. It can fuse together the online communities of both PC and Xbox One, making them larger and increasing demand for a given game. This, theoretically, will mean that devs will support and update cross-platform games for longer than those of, say, the PlayStation 4 - which will inherently have much smaller communities for its games. It's early days yet for this feature, but we're likely to see it coming together in 2016, when it could potentially give the Xbox One a huge advantage in the online gaming realm.
