8 Reasons To Be Excited About The Nintendo Switch 2

1. Sweet, Refreshing Confidence

The most incredible thing Nintendo’s Direct did was expose how pathetic the last couple of years of PlayStation and Xbox have been. Whilst they’ve rarely been outright terrible, even the best of Sony’s State of Plays or Microsoft’s Showcases have often felt like thumbing through middling updates before arriving at the one major news at the end. Yes, we should all be excited about Ghost of Yotei or Fable as individual releases, but Sony and Microsoft have failed to muster a lot of confidence from consumers in their hardware.

Considering we’re halfway into a generation and we’re all standing around like John Travolta looking at a bunch of very non-specific release windows asking where the games for $400 consoles are… that’s not good.

But Nintendo’s latest direct was the most unbelievable display of confidence. Sure, it had a slow start but the second act was a string of important headlines about what the Switch 2 could do, could run and could provide players within the first year.

Going into the Direct they were a lot of questions how they would fill an hour of presentation, let alone the Nintendo Treehouse streams, but they concluded with thousands of people clamouring for the console (and, uh, yeah having the iron hammer of realisation hit them when they saw the price tags online thereafter). AND with yet another Direct planned for just over two weeks from now to dive into Mario Kart.

After a dud few years for Nintendo as the Switch appeared to wind down, the reality was that Nintendo was in fact winding up the other arm for a knock-out blow with the Switch 2 Direct.

Sony and Microsoft should be at the very least impressed if not embarrassed but how confidently Nintendo laid out their plans for the first few years of their next system, in an era of gaming which has been a lot of questions and not a lot of good answers for the competition.
