3. Halo 2: Anniversary
Like many other game companies, Microsoft has gotten into remaking older games in HD. Three years ago, they released Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, a port of the original Xbox game with new graphics that could be turned on or off, achievements, and the original gameplay. This did pretty well in terms of sales and critical reception, so its not that surprising that another Halo HD remake might be in the works. However, while ntkrnl did leak that Halo 2 Anniversary was going to be a thing, that was only the beginning. He also said that there would be two editions of the game. The first one, the Collectors Edition, which would have Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 5 beta access, and a Forward Unto Dawn like show. The second, the War Collection, would have everything in the Collectors Edition, plus ports of Halo 3 and 4. Could it be true: Almost definitely for Halo 2 Anniversary, possible for the Halo 5 beta and the new series, somewhat unlikely on the War Collection Halo 2 Anniversary is an inevitability, given how much Microsoft views the franchise as a cash cow. The only question was when it would show up, and if the Halo 5 delay is real, this would be the perfect time to get it out there, especially now that Halo Anniversary's developer has signed on to an unnamed Microsoft project. Bundling Halo 5 beta access with the game makes sense as a hype building measure and to possibly win back some of the Halo fans burned by Halo 4s poor multiplayer. The real question is whether Microsoft would do another Forward Unto Dawn style series while gearing up for Spielbergs show. Given how much money Microsoft has and is willing to toss around, it is a real possibility that theyll do two shows and recycle as many assets as possible. The War Collection, on the other hand, seems way too unlikely to be true. First of all, even if the War Edition is $100+, getting three Xbox One ports at once doesnt fit Microsofts style. These are the people notorious for overpricing laptop hard drives by sticking them in funny enclosures, after all. Halo 4 getting an Xbox One port in 2014 makes sense its the latest game and probably the easiest to port since 343i has all the files available. But a triple pack of ports would saturate the Halo market and weaken demand for Halo 5, especially among the fans that think 343i messed up the games with Halo 4.
