8 Remasters That Made Video Games WORSE
2. Warcraft III: Reforged
Blizzard Entertainment is known for having effectively cornered the MMORPG market with the legendary World Of Warcraft, crushing all known competitors under its overdesigned +20 Boots Of Pulverisation. However, the studio first cemented its revered status with the 2002 real-time strategy Warcraft III: Reign Of Chaos.
Introducing the series' now trademark cartoony 3D art style, Reign Of Chaos received universal acclaim for its exceptionally well-balanced gameplay, and a simple yet effective interface, making the game both enjoyable for newcomers and RTS veterans alike.
When Blizzard announced Warcraft III: Reforged, a remaster of the seminal title, it was met with a great deal of excitement, promising to tell its epic origin stories "more stunning and evocatively than ever before". Of course, when the game was finally released in January 2020, that excitement gave way to hatred. Reforged was plagued by bugs from the outset, and its changes in gameplay and massive, invasive user interface was roundly decried.
Not helping was a lack of many features promised by Blizzard in the run-up to release.
Worst of all, however, was a patch enforced on Reign Of Chaos that introduced many of these unwanted new features to the game, therefore ruining the experience of even the excellent original.
