8 Ridiculous Video Game Plotholes We Love Anyway
These games just wouldn't be the same without these totally daft plot holes.

Plot holes are an inevitability in any piece of media and certainly video games, which with their typically more expansive runtimes than, say, movies, invite the probability of some serious lapses in narrative logic.
Plot holes can be majorly distracting when they're big enough to drive a truck through, but at the same time, there's something to be said for favouring feeling over logic where media consumption is concerned.
And then there are those plot holes which, while utterly absurd, bring a charm and personality to the table that makes them tough to hate. Hell, you might even like or straight-up love them.
That's absolutely the case with these totally bonkers, wildly WTF plot video game plot holes, each of which have been widely dissected by the fandom, and yet whose presence many fans will defend to their dying breath.
From head-scratching disparities between story and gameplay to plot twists that just make no damn sense at all, these holes could've been utterly game-ruining if circumstances were slightly different, but here they're simply a quirky part of each game's DNA.
Without these gaping plot holes, these games just wouldn't be the same...
8. Codec Calls Make NO SENSE - Metal Gear Solid

One of the most distinctive elements of the Metal Gear Solid franchise is the codec - a discrete radio communications device which each game's protagonist wears in their ear to communicate with their support team.
In the original Metal Gear Solid, the concealed nature of the codec obviously prevents enemy soldiers from overhearing Colonel Campbell and others talking to Snake, but Snake is still shown speaking at a totally regular volume. What gives?
It's comical to think about Snake crouching down and speaking at great length for minutes at a time all while Genome Soldiers are waltzing around mere feet away, apparently blissfully unaware.
In a game centered around stealth of all things, it's especially ludicrous, and yet, in its own way a rather charming quirk of the series - something most fans are prepared to accept because the codec dialogues are just so damn cool.
Hideo Kojima did however come up with a convoluted workaround for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, where the codec now handles communications via nanomachines, ensuring that characters can "speak" while appearing silent to the outside observer. Wild.
