8 Titles That Proved Licensed Video Games Can Be Awesome

2. GoldenEye 007

This James Bond game isn€™t just an example of how games based on established franchises can be great games. It is a hugely important game in the industry and has influenced every first-person shooter that has been developed since 1997. Before GoldenEye the FPS genre had been somewhat limited to the PC market, where the mouse and keyboard combination was considered best for controlling that type of game. It featured incredibly detailed levels and very realistic graphics (at least for the time). There was also a large variety of weapons, a freedom to ignore certain objectives and intuitive controls. All of this meant that the game became immensely popular. The game can even claim, at least partly, to have invented the ability to zoom with a sniper rifle. However perhaps the most important feature the game brought to console gaming was the ability to have local multiplayer, allowing gamers to battle it out with their friends. It offered a multiplayer experience that had never really appeared before on consoles. Overall GoldenEye 007 wasn€™t just an excellent game but also a revolutionary one. There hasn€™t been a better Bond game since, and you could argue that there hasn€™t been a more influential game either.
