8 Titles That Proved Licensed Video Games Can Be Awesome

3. Batman: Arkham Asylum

The superhero genre of games haven€™t had a particularly good reputation. They€™ve been a staple of the industry since its very beginnings but it is pretty hard to find a decent superhero title, with poor examples include Silver Surfer and Catwoman. The Batman franchise hasn€™t escaped the pit of mediocrity either. Games like Batman: Dark Tomorrow kept it rooted firmly in the very average camp. However this all changed in 2009 with the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum by Rocksteady Studios. The developer had managed to incorporate many of the elements that make Batman such a popular hero, such as his unrivalled detective skills and expert combat ability. Alongside this was a brilliant voice cast that included Mark Hamill in the role of the iconic Joker. Combining all of this with a host of famous villains and an incredibly detailed world led to Arkham Asylum being described by many critics as the best superhero game of all time. Perhaps the greatest compliment that can be given to the game is that it made you feel part of the Batman universe in a way few other adaptations ever have. The game has spawned a series of games that have also proved to be critically acclaimed as well as immensely popular. These have included Arkham City and Arkham Origins.
