8 Video Game Characters Hiding Terrible Secrets

7. Elizabeth Winters - Vanquish

Now I know when you look at the smug, bald and very Russian face of Victor Zaitsev from the video game Vanquish, that you might immediately label him as the bad guy, and to be honest he's not doing himself any favours what with his giant army of murderous robots and overall plan to hijack a solar station to be used as a death ray.

However what if I told you that the real villain of the piece was actually Elizabeth Winters, President Of The United States and all round asshat? She might not seem it at first seeing as Winters is very instrumental in taking down the invading forces aboard the space station, but as the plot advances, it becomes clear that she actually orchestrated the entire thing.

It turns out that Winters was working with Victor and his coup to take control of the space station, but then aimed to betray him in order to use the solar power to annihilate all of Russia using the invasion as means to declare war. This in turn would end their trade conflicts and allow America to establish itself as the sole global leader. However her plan failed when Sam Gideon and his team defeated not only Victor's forces but Winters' own, forcing her to commit suicide before the world found out.

Yet here's the thing, Sam never actually relays this information to the world, as the game ends before this point, and he's actually in a better position not telling everyone about this. If he did, Russia would be able to declare war on the US and America would lose support within its own borders for this high treason. Therefore it's very likely that things return to a state of Cold War tension between the two states, both knowing what the other had really been up to.
