8 Video Game Deaths That Just Didn't Work

7. Marcus' Dad - Gears Of War 3

With such a surprising amount of loose ends to tie up, Gears of War 3 had so much on its plate that it was constantly in danger of overflowing. At the start of the third act of the franchise we had: Dom dealing with his wife's death, Marcus looking for his father who might still be alive, The Locust Queen appearing to pull strings behind the scenes, an entirely new mutation strain occurring within the Locust, and of course, the ever-present world-ending threat of global war.

It's a lot to take in, right? And yet it was up to Gears Of War 3 to try and close things out the best it could. And you know what? When it came to Dom's death, they absolutely nailed it. This was a moment that felt earned, that it was a truly emotional sacrifice for his friends. Marcus's dad's death on the other hand?

Well to be honest, I forgot it happened.

Playing second fiddle to Dom's death, Adam Fenix's demise felt like little more than plot necessity rather than an emotional payoff, and the character was resurrected and then killed off again in a matter of hours, leaving players almost confused as to what the point of it was.

Jules Gill hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
