8 Video Game Deaths That Just Didn't Work
6. Kaidan - Mass Effect
So here's the thing. I love video games that offer choices, and if an experience has me sweating bullets and hovering over the reset button in case the route I've taken has gone rotten, then all the better in my eyes. Yet this means inversely that I have a special deep-seated hatred for video games that offer choices that are utterly dumb and without meaningful consequences.
Enter Kaidan from Mass Effect, easily the worst party member that joins Shepard on their quest to save the known universe. He's so generic, annoying, clingy, and judgemental that I would take the soulless husks that comprise Mass Effect: Andromeda's party members over him any day.
Thus when it comes to the supposedly emotional climax of the original game in which one of your group needs to stay behind and sacrifice themselves, I, along with countless other players, couldn't stop hammering the "KILL KAIDAN" button.
It absolutely sucks that so many of us were ready to jettison a party member so quickly, but when your character development boils down to "ooooh I wouldn't do that if I were you" then absolutely get in the bin and out of my game.
