8 Video Game Enemies That Are Secretly Friends
4. Magus - Chrono Trigger
Magus is introduced as a major early villain in Chrono Trigger - a powerful mage who apparently wants to create the terrifying Eldritch monster known as Lavos, and so needs to be stopped.
But after fighting your way to Magus and apparently preventing his attempt to create Lavos, it's revealed that Magus isn't quite who he seems, like at all.
As it turns out, Magus is actually trying to summon an already-existing Lavos only in order to kill the entity, as revenge for it killing his dear sister in the past.
After hearing Magus' sad story, players are given a tough choice - they can either kill Magus regardless or spare his life and allow him to join their party.
In the latter instance, Magus becomes an ally in the ongoing fight against Lavos, albeit while remaining relatively unapologetic about his prior clashes with Crono and company.
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" may be a wildly overdone trope in fiction, but this is one instance where it really caught most players off-guard.
