8 Video Game Enemies Who Won't Stay Dead!
2. Trolls - Dungeons And Dragons: Tower Of Doom
From one tabletop fantasy game to another, Dungeons and Dragons has a surprisingly huge amount of video games in its vast library, yet none are quite as satisfyingly simple as the brilliant duo of beat-em-ups that were released for arcades back in the late '90s.
Chronicles of Mystara and Tower of Doom were genuinely some of the best the genre had to offer at the time, as they did a lot to elevate things from just being "Streets of Mage". For a start, the game had a pretty comprehensive magic system that let players try out all sorts of amazing and wonderful spells on enemies. It even let them use the banter spell "Sticks To Snakes" which turns a bundle of twigs into deadly vipers that attack their enemies!
How can you not love that?!
Plus there was a fairly deep levelling up system meaning that players would get stronger as they completed adventures. However, one adventure that might be cut very short was when players came up against the Troll in Tower of Doom, as for the uninitiated this was a literally impossible boss!
Every time the Troll would appear to be down and out, it would regenerate itself and the battle would begin anew. This of course would eat lives and coins for breakfast, causing some players to likely think the game was broken entirely. However for those who know a bit about the DND lore, Trolls can't regenerate when exposed to fire, and the game rewards this line of thinking by letting you burn the corpse of the Troll in order to beat the level!
It's a brilliant little nod, but for the unprepared, this was an ugly lesson in pain.
