8 Video Game Sequels That Made You Say WHAT?!

5. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

Now if I’m truly honest, when it came to covering Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5 from the long long ago of 2015 my initial reaction was of utter disgust and therefore “urgh” could have replaced “what?” quite easily.

Yet as I played on and witnessed the sheer lack of innovation, the horrible thick sludge that covered the controls, and the clipping that acted as a perfect metaphor for how disconnected the developers were with fans of the series at this point, my level of contempt began to rise and rise until I yelled “What” at the top of my lungs and in the process robbed that years “scream of the year” from Deafheaven’s New Bermuda album.

This was less a sequel made with love and care, and more a resentful squirt of thick piss that felt like an ex handing back all your stuff after the breakup but finding all your t-shirts have been cut into vests when they just knew you’re sensitive about your hairy upper arms.

*cough*

Anyway, THPS5 is a hollow shell of a game, featuring fewer skaters, fewer modes, just less across the board, and it will leave you in a stunning state of bewilderment that can only be summed up as “what the f**k were they thinking?”
