8 Video Game Sequels That Made You Say WHAT?!
2. DOOM RPG
So, when you think of DOOM what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Tearing through demons at high speed? Monstrously glorious gore-ious kills that make you question whether the animators might need to speak to someone? Or how about a killer soundtrack that punctuates each of your fists punching their way through an enemy?
Probably low on the list is “turn-based RPG” yet that’s exactly what DOOM RPG offered for mobile players back in 2005 which might as well have come with the tagline “yeah. Weird right?”
Yet even more shocking than this development choice was the fact that it was actually bloody brilliant! The game, which recreates and amalgamates both DOOM II and III storylines thus making it a weird spin-off sequel, is a joy to play, albeit at a pace completely at odds with where the series is now.
As you roam corridors tile by tile and tackle famous demons from the franchise, it’s hard not to be left with your mouth agape and the world “what” just dribbling across your tongue, as this is the least DOOM a DOOM game can be and yet….is still probably better than DOOM Ressurection.
