Now I know what you’re all thinking, Jules you devilishly handsome rock that has been battered by the waves of time, I’m pretty sure that Alien: Isolation is a standalone game with no prior titles before it, and unfortunately at the time of recording no announced sequel ahead of it, so what the hell are you on about you absolute mutfruit?

Well, my friend, the fact that I’m pulling the old “evil finger temple” right now should give away the fact that I’m twisting the rules of the list ever so slightly, as I’ll ask “is Alien: Isolation not a sequel to the Alien film franchise as it’s set 15 years after the original film?” and if that’s not good enough for you, technically it’s a sequel to the absolute weeping ass blister that was Colonial Marines as it’s set after that in the timeline and obviously in the same universe!

However all pedantic elements aside, we need to talk more about this beauty of a game, because I won’t lie I said “What?!” so many times throughout the experience, and for several different reasons.

Firstly the love shown to creating the technology and overall aesthetics of the original movie. Secondly, the incredible sound design as honestly *chef kiss*, and last but certainly not least, the handling of the Xenomorph itself.

I knew full well about the dual AI that this monster was programmed with, where one controls the body but has no idea where you are, and the other which knows exactly where you are but can only give clues to the former, but seeing it in action, seeing it figure out I was under a desk, or drag me out from a cabinet was something altogether beyond what I could have ever expected. The “What?!” here might as well have come with that Tim and Eric mind explosion meme.
