8 Video Game Sequels That Made You Say WHAT?!

No but seriously.

Despite being a factor of the video game industry that you could set your watch by, the video game sequel is anything but a sure thing when it comes to the content it carries over from the original game.

From changing mechanics, updating characters or completely redesigning everything from the ground up, sometimes sequels can almost be unrecognizable even within their own library.

In fact, some sequels can change so much that it’s almost shocking to see what madness is now being paraded as the continuation of the series, and it all might get so much for the player that all they can utter is one word, and that’s “...what?!

When it comes to the Persona series, a certified seal of “what?” approval might as well be stamped all over it seeing as there are so many WTF moments that you’ll feel like going twelve rounds with Muhammed Ali who has replaced his fists with fishing rods because you’ll be left reeling constantly from all the weird body blows this series hits wth.

Still, I can honestly say that nobody expected a sequel to the utter masterclass that is Persona 4 to have come in the form of a 2D Fighting Game! This was the equivalent of Dynasty Warriors jumping from fighter to open-world brawler, but in reverse and all the more confusing, as this actually carried over threads of the plot from the prior game but added in another new level of weirdness.

To better clarify, this game is actually set at the end of the Persona 4 title but also before that game's epilog, meaning that it did the whole pre-sequel thing before Borderlands ever dolloped it out in 2014.

Making this all the more strange was the fact that this game is bloody brilliant. No joke this fighting game came out and embarrassed other titles in the genre, and for that alone, plus the sheer insanity of the direction the franchise took, it deserves your attention.
