New Super Mario Bros. sold: 30,800,000 copies
If the New Super Mario series stopped at New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii then both of these games would probably be beloved entries in the Mario series that are brought up in conversation alongside the original trilogy and Super Mario World.
Because of New Super Mario Bros. 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U, these games are looked at as simply part of the least creative series Nintendo has ever created and nothing else.
They're now just a footnote in Mario's history when they could have been a big part of it as the games are actually really good.
New Super Mario Bros. is one of the best games on the Nintendo DS. and manages to be a creative evolution of what was established in Super Mario World. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is that plus multiplayer and Yoshi, what's not to love?
Everybody loved these games when they were actually "new" but the stigma around them prevents these games from popping up in conversation that frequently.
