6. Rocket League

Rocket League is the sort of accidental success story that publishers desperately scramble to imitate, and yet, a decade on from its release, it remains the crowned king of the casual-friendly eSports game.

Though the giddily entertaining car football game launched to instant success, it wouldn't have been shocking to see its player-base fall off a cliff within a few short months as everyone moved onto something else.

And yet, the deceptive simplicity of its easy-to-pick-up gameplay kept players coming back for more and more, and within a day of Rocket League going free-to-play in September 2020, it registered an insane 1 million concurrent players for the first time.

Rocket League pulled off the near-impossible feat of appealing to people who like racing games, people who like football games, and people who don't really care about either.

Its addictive, physics-based gameplay loop and chill-but-competitive nature have allowed Rocket League to endure as something many will always keep installed on their gaming system of choice.
