8 Video Games Fans SAVED From Annihilation
1. Vampire: The Masquerade
If fan patches can be seen as love letters to titles that fans desperately want to shine like the diamonds they know they are, then the support for Vampire: The Masquerade can be seen a full romance novel, as thanks to their sheer effort, the original game has had over FIFTEEN years of support, making it one of the most beloved cult classic video games of our time.
Yet, this was not a pleasant passage of time for Troika games, who were given marching orders from Activision mere months before the game was set to release.
Thanks to the end being very much in sight and a rushed deadline to meet, testing for the game was done over a matter of weeks, and as such the title launched to a hugely divisive reaction. Some couldn't look past the broken mechanics and ropey set pieces, however, for a few fans the title stuck its fangs in deep, and became something of a passion project to fix.
Thanks to the tireless work of the community, patches began to roll out, and some fans even got in touch with ex-Troika devs to help guide them on what content should have been included. With their support and even assets from the cutting room floor, Vampire began to rise from the grave of mediocrity into something so undeniable that a sequel is in development!
None of this would have happened if fans hadn't latched on to the setting and story, and fingers crossed it won't take another 15 years for Bloodlines 2 to be such a hit.
