The Last Of Us was officially unveiled at the Spike Video Game Awards in December 2011, with an intense teaser trailer in which Joel beats a man to death with a plank, before blowing a clicker's head off with his revolver. Basically a standard Tuesday.

For the vast majority of people, this was the first time they'd seen a single sliver of the game, but for those who'd recently played Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception? They might've noticed a tease for the post-apocalyptic project hidden in that game.

That's because the Nathan Drake threequel - which launched a month before The Last Of Us was revealed - contained a newspaper easter egg that mentioned a "deadly fungus", directly referencing the origin of the clickers, runners, and all those other horrifying monsters that Joel and Ellie would end up fighting.

In hindsight, this was a pretty cool way for Naughty Dog to tease its next game in its current game, but as revealed by The Last Of Us co-creator Neill Druckmann, the inclusion of the newspaper was a total accident, having been left in the game when the The Last Of Us' reveal was pushed from June to December.
