8 Video Games That Accidentally Included Things You Weren't Supposed To See

7. The Leaver Penalty (Apex Legends)

Leaver penalties are a common feature in multiplayer games, intended to improve the quality of matches by preventing your teammates from mindlessly rage-quitting.

That said, it's a feature that's tough to get right (for example, teaching the game to distinguish between connection errors and actual quitters), which is partly why Respawn's terrific battle-royale Apex Legends didn't include quit penalties at launch.

As such, many Legends were surprised when they logged onto the game in April 2019, got outplayed by a sweaty Twitch streamer, left the match... and immediately got hit with a matchmaking delay.

WTF Respawn??

There hadn't been a major update for the game and no such feature had even been announced, which caused a ton of confusion within the playerbase - until Respawn came forward and admitted that they'd implemented leaver penalties by accident, after testing the feature internally.

Fortunately, the devs were quick to rectify this mistake, and they soon removed these penalties from the game - allowing salty quitters to run rampant once again.
