8 Video Games That Ended Before They Started
1. Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy
So for those wee babies in the audience who look at a PS2's memory card slot with a fretted brow and a sweaty, confused look on their faces, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is what we older games call, a stone-cold killer of a title (which you might now term as a title that "slaps bruh").
Combining ragdoll physics with complete and utter psychic-powered chaos, Psi-Ops was a game that shed its military shooter vibes and aesthetics not two levels in and only ever looked back to laugh at the slew of other brown-pallette action games that were struggling to find a home. However maybe Psi-ops should have checked where it was going as just as the action seems to hit a high and the plot develops into something intriguing, things stumble and fall off into the abyss.
In the closing moments, Nick is confronted by two attack helicopters and it's suggested an even bigger threat is going to emerge to tie all the psychic shenanigans all together, the game just cuts to black with the classic sequel bait of "To Be Continued". It's one thing for a mega-blockbuster like Halo 2 to pull this move, but here in a much lesser known IP, it feels like a truly misguided move that seems to rob the player of a satisfying conclusion.
It's such a shame as the story on offer is, while not groundbreaking, very well-paced, and thanks to the inclusion of weird and wonderful bosses, Evil twins, and government conspiracies, was never ever dull.
