8 Video Games That Ended Before They Started

2. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

After watching Hbomberguys epic long-form video essay on the trials and tribulations of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, it sparked within me that desire to delve back into the series once again (who knows maybe I'll even finish Invisible War this time? Jokes.), however, before I did it was really interesting to note how the quick-witted YouTuber mentioned how a lot of the issues present in Human Revolution were ironed out in Mankind Divided.

It's hard not to agree with this statement as the combat was tweaked so that it wasn't as relied upon as in the former title, the approach to level design was rehauled to make things feel more connected to the in-game world and in place of boss battles that were farmed out to another dev studio...there was just one, and it came at the end of the game.

However, the issue is not the lack of boss battles per se but the fact that the story just felt like it got going right as this battle hit our screens. A running joke within the Deus Ex community is that the game attempted to eliminate downtime by cutting out a tonne of chapters of its own story, as here it definitely feels like you go to the Alps to battle some bioterrorists, head to London, have a boss battle, declare war on the Illuminati running the whole show and then hit the showers.

Quite literally the most interesting point of the game is where Mankind Divided chooses to end things, and with no sequel on the horizon as Square Enix is more interested in dividing mankind from their disposable income through microtransactions, it looks as if the Illuminati are calling this a win for themselves.

Jules Gill hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
