Turn-based fight systems can be rather inscrutable. Since all they really boil down to is a numbers game, it can be difficult to know why exactly you're being beaten: whether or not you're using the wrong moves, or using the right moves in the wrong order, or whether you need to stock up on consumable items and heals.

The boss Gogo in Final Fantasy V is one such source of frustration. If you attack him, he's got the power to wipe out an entire party within several brutal attacks. Yet pay attention to him and things are much simpler. Gogo is a mimic, which means he only attacks if the player does. As he says himself, “Thusly, I will imitate your every move!”.

The most effective way of besting Gogo, then, is to not move at all. After a while Gogo gives up and rewards the player for doing absolutely nothing, leaving the party to go on its merry way. Not only is it a clever puzzle, its solution is completely effortless.
