For most people, browser-based game Runescape is nothing but a distant memory, a fun little distraction they played years ago. Others took the game seriously enough to pay for membership, unlocking access to a huge amount of varied content. Regardless of what you think or thought of Runescape, it's a staggering achievement for a browser game, and continues to improve its amount of content and its visuals to this day.

One of the most interesting quests in the entire game was titled Thrones Of Miscellania. Successful completion of the quest makes the player the regent of the nation Miscellania, an island full of resources and workers willing to gather them. Runescape is rather distinct in that the resources needed to gain specific skill levels are tough to obtain unless you have a huge amount of money, as they require prolonged time and effort to gather.

Which makes the ability to manage Miscellania – getting workers to mine ore, fish, cut down trees and do other tasks – extremely valuable, especially in a game that demands large amounts of time in order to get ahead. Even when you aren't playing, however, your community on Miscellania continues to thrive. Now that's realism done right.
