8 Video Games That Reward You For Not Playing Them
3. EarthBound Teaches You To Meditate
Despite being released in 1994 for the SNES, EarthBound has persisted as a Nintendo classic for over three decades, with many fans demanding its sequel (known as Mother 3) finally receive an official English translation. There are many unique things about EarthBound, one of which is the prolonged meditation section.
During part of the game the player controls a character named Poo (I know, I know…). Poo climbs a mountain in order to learn the ancient art of Mu meditation. While meditating, Poo receives a bunch of rather disturbing visions: people calling out for his help and asking him to come to them, a spirit that threatens to break his arms and legs...it's creepy stuff.
The only way to succeed is to ignore all of this and to continue meditating. Do nothing at all and you'll succeed your Mu training, but cave under the pressure and you'll have to start over again. All in all the entire thing takes several minutes to complete, so impatient players might have a bad time. But isn't learning patience the whole point of meditation?
