8 Video Games With The BEST Game Overs

3. Styx's Frustrated Fourth Wall Breaks - Styx: Shards Of Darkness

It's a fairly common trope to see video game protagonist deaths commented on by those around them at the time. Daxter usually spouted off a terrible one-liner in the original Jak and Daxter game and Batman would often have to face the final blow of humiliation being delivered by the vicious barbs of his rogue's gallery, but Styx: Shards Of Darkness kicks things up a notch by breaking the fourth wall and chastising the player.

Depending on how you met your end, the lovably gruff Styx will appear from the nether to poke fun at how you killed him, sometimes asking whether you were streaming that death as he wants to appear on a goblin death compilation, or checking to make sure you know how to play the game in general for how rubbish your efforts have been.

Thanks to the very self-aware nature of the game, these moments never truly feel like a slap in the face, and more jesting between good friends, although some of them are so funny you might try killing Styx in all manner of ways just to see what he has to say.
