8 Weirdest Video Game Enemies (And What They Represent)
3. Behemoth - Horizon: Zero Dawn
Appearing across Horizon: Zero Dawn as massive machines with intimidating fighting prowess, Behemoths crop up across the lands as powerful, stocky robots that are at one with both nature and metal.
Those that have completed the game will know that Behemoths are naturally a part of GAIA's terraforming protocols, utilised to bring resources to cauldrons for the construction of more machines. They do this with their anti-gravity abilities, and move in herds between sites to deliver their cargo.
Interestingly, aside from the Metal Devil, the Behemoth is one of the only machines to have its name based in mythology. Born from the Babylonian origin, the Behemoth was created as an example of God's power to Job - the male equivalent to the female Leviathan of the sea.
Both these creatures are beings of chaos used to demonstrate raw, uncontrollable power to humans, which makes sense considering Sun-King Jiran's preference for using the beasts for combat in the Sun-Ring. And of course, the Behemoth's capability as creations of strength to almost always win against their human foes.
The Behemoth of legend is described as elephant or buffalo like, but rhinoceros have also been linked to the creature - the latter of which is the basis for Horizon's interpretation.
