8 Worst Spin-Offs From HUGE Video Game Franchises
2. Silent Hill: Ascension
Though it seems like the Silent Hill franchise has finally gotten back on firm footing after so many years on the skids, it was barely 18 months ago that Konami curled out the abomination that was Silent Hill: Ascension.
Less a conventional video game than a shambling fusion of interactive browser experience and TV series, Ascension marked a bold attempt to expand the Silent Hill IP into an ongoing episodic adventure lasting several months.
However, Ascension was instantly pilloried by fans and critics alike for its borderline nonsensical narrative - even for Silent Hill - unintentionally comical dialogue and voice acting, and generally failed attempt to create an experience people would keep returning to on a weekly basis.
This is without even mentioning the embarrassingly intrusive microtransactions and bevy of technical issues which waylaid the launch, while the in-game chat was so stuffed to the brim with derisive remarks that it ended up being swiftly turned off.
Even barely a year after it finished "airing," Silent Hill: Ascension is already a distant memory to most Silent Hill fans, and thank god.
