8 Worst Spin-Offs From HUGE Video Game Franchises

Ah, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, the game that made everyone take another look at Metroid: Other M and consider whether they perhaps treated it too harshly.

Federation Force's mere announcement in 2015 stoked the ire of the fanbase, who had been impatiently waiting for a new full-fat Metroid game and were instead presented with a title that felt like Metroid in name only.

A co-op-centric experience where Samus is barely seen, Federation Force felt like an original prototype which someone decided to slap the Metroid branding on.

Beyond this, the more cutesy art style felt wholly inappropriate for the franchise, and the football-based Blast Ball mode ended up sticking out like a sore thumb.

It's probably fair to say that Federation Force is as hated for what it wasn't as what it was, but it nevertheless marked a staggeringly tone-deaf, poorly timed attempt to open up the Metroid series' possibilities at a time when fans had waited far too long for another core title.
