9 2018 Video Games That Wasted Their Biggest Selling Points

3. A Glorified MGS V Expansion - Metal Gear Survive

All you had to do, Konami-without-Kojima, was do right by the fans. And all we wanted, was a supplementary slew of missions and objectives to dive back into, using Phantom Pain's exemplary game engine.

Yet... you couldn't even do that.

After subjecting the Metal Gear fandom to various pachinko machines that came complete with remastered cutscenes (something we actually wanted to see), the next step was... an open-world zombie survival game. Because of course it was.

Sadly, Konami all but removed MGS V's experimental, tactile gameplay, replacing it with one repetitive poke attack and a resource-heavy approach to maintaining bases or fending off the undead hordes.

Ultimately, this had about as much to do with Metal Gear as Bethesda do polished game engines.
