9 Disturbing Video Game Trends That Need To Stop

3. Mid-Generation Console Upgrades

Revisiting the notion of consoles as a more 'hassle-free' way to play video games for a minute here, let's talk about the recent trend of mid-generation console upgrades.

Once again, one of the draws of consoles as opposed to PC has always been the idea that hardware never needs upgrading - that you can buy a console once and use it for the product's entire lifetime. While this is technically true, the release of 'upgraded' consoles like the PS4 Pro, Xbox One S and the upcoming Xbox Scorpio greatly undermine the argument.

While these consoles aren't a requirement to play their respective games, they certainly are advertised with the intention of making non-adopters feel like they're greatly missing out. Often touted as the 'ultimate' version of the console, some games even run better on the new hardware.

The Last Guardian for instance, was supposed to be much more stable on the PS4 Pro when compared to its predecessor.

I'm not quite as irked by mid-generation console upgrades as most of the other stuff on this list, but I do think the practice is worrying for the console market, as it slowly concedes any advantage it had over the PC.
