9 Genuinely Haunted Video Games You Won't Believe

1. Polybius - Government Mind Control

Zelda Redeads
Sinneslöschen

The oldest legend on this list, Polybius is a story all the way back from the 80's, and it involves a whole bunch of awesome cliches to bolster the supposed myth.

Men in black, psychoactive reactions, secret government research, you name it.

The story goes that a few Polybius game cabinets appeared a few arcades in Portland, Oregon in the early eighties. The game proved to popular to the point of addiction, with long queues forming to play the mysterious new game.

Tales soon began of seizures, hallucinations, night terrors and amnesia, amongst other things. But the weirdest part wasn't what the game was causing to people, but the covert men in black collecting data from the machine each night.

And then, a month later, all the cabinets have mysteriously vanished...

Snopes have gone on to debunk this urban legend, but that's the tin hat brigade will tell you that they want you to think. Were the government behind some mind control/data collection shenanigans, or did Polybius ever exist...?

More importantly, how much would you get for one of the cabinets on eBay...?
