He was reassigned to join Captain Price following a nuclear explosion and remained a valiant fighter until his untimely death at the hands of Zakhaev and his men. Griggs saved Soap's life by attempting to pull him away to safety, and conveniently next to a still breathing Captain Price.

During Modern Warfare 2019, he gets several shoutouts from characters such as Alex and Farah as well as some mentions in other operators' bios.

Fans can rest assured that Griggs is at least alive and well in the new continuity.

Whether or not his return would include another incredible post-credit rap sequence performed by Mark Grigsby is another thing though.
