9 Powerful Video Game Side Stories You Probably Missed

5. Unlucky Neighbours - Dead Island

Dead Island certainly has its fans but there were a lot of people who pointed out the rather large discrepancy between the emotionally charged trailer and the goofy fun game that came out.

The gulf was so large in fact that I popped it on our list of Massively Misleading Trailers That Were Nothing Like The Final Game, but it turns out the narrative of that devastating trailer was a little closer to home than we thought. Fans of the game will know you begin the story getting out of bed in your hotel room and quickly learning everything has gone to hell. If you walk the opposite direction, away from your map marker, you’ll walk right into the hotel room featured in the game’s amazing cinematic trailer.

The husband and wife can be seen donning the same clothes, dead on the floor, and the apartment is covered in blood.

The daughter isn’t there because of the whole turning into a zombie and getting yeeted out the window thing, but it’s fascinating to see the narrative of one of the best trailers in video games found its way into the game proper. Even if it is in a small way that most players likely missed.
