9 Reasons Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Better Than GTA 5

4. A "Superpower" Ability With A Defined Tactical Purpose

GTA V's character-based superpowers felt tacked on at best. Reading like an arbitrary list of "video game abilities", Michael had Max Payne's slow-motion shooting, Franklin took Need for Speed's slow-mo pinpoint precision driving, and Trevor got... a million games' damage-increasing rage mode.

They were all 6/10 serviceable as hell, but Red Dead 2's Dead Eye is that first power done right.

Using it in battle is first contingent on looking after yourself. A rested and well-fed gunslinger is most effective, and that's before you upgrade the ability to target specific limbs and organs, meaning cleaner hunting kills and more profitable quarry for your camp, or a "captured alive" bounty.

There was no reason to use GTA V's abilities outside of them existing, and though that still meant you could have fun, it contributes to that overall notion of GTA V being a scattered menagerie of ideas, rather than a project with defined focus.
