9 Reasons You're WRONG About Resident Evil 6
5. All Prior Games Serve As Influences
When they were developing Resident Evil 6, Capcom kept stressing how they were trying to cater to everyone. Leon's campaign would be a throwback to Resi 4 and 2, Chris' would be a continuation of 5's action bombast, while Jake and Sherry would usher in a blend unique to 6 (apart from the main villain being a throwback to Nemesis).
They didn't totally nail that idea (Leon's run was far from the classic survival-horror experience most were expecting), but the game as a whole does feel like a patchwork of prior Resi ideas, themes, and gameplay philosophies, all delivered through the sequel's brilliant mechanics.
Again, it's sort of like a greatest hits routine of the franchise's biggest strengths, going from zombie-infested cities ala Resident Evil 2, to the aforementioned Nemesis-esque battles, to the boulder-punching action set-pieces of Resi 5.
Even better, it accomplishes all of this while still delivering original stories, locations, enemies and unique ways to play. Even if one section feels a bit familiar, you're quickly ushered onto the next part of the rollercoaster, and it never stops being fun.
