9 Upcoming Video Games You Need To Be Worried About

7. Dead Space Remake

In an age of relentless nostalgia mining remakes, from the likes of Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil and Spyro to name a few, it was only a matter of time before Sci-fi survival horror Dead Space got the glow up fans had been praying for.

An absolute game changer at the time, Visceral Games’ Dead Space introduced gaming fans to Isaac Clarke, sci-fi’s unluckiest engineer who finds himself trapped aboard a mining space ship infested with the Necromorphs; Lovecraftian nightmare fuel made of nothing but razor teeth, pulsating sinews and trouser soiling hunger. Following a seminal sequel and a decidedly middling third outing, the franchise has been silent for many years before finally getting the greenlight for a remake in July 2021.

So far so wonderful, you may think, but the gaming industry has changed a great deal since 2008, and the architect of many of the more distasteful elements of the landscape is none other than Dead Space’s publisher: EA. Notorious for the dollar signs in their eyes when making games, EA has garnered a huge amount of controversy over the last few years after cramming lucrative microtransactions into games, effectively creating ‘pay to win’ situations where progress becomes so difficult that real world money is the only solution, lining the pockets of executives at the expense of potentially underage or vulnerable players.

Whilst EA have promised that this game will contain no microtransactions, unlike its predecessor Dead Space 3, we can’t help but look at the embarrassingly similar pledge made by Activision about Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fuelled back in 2019, and that little grain of doubt, like Marker induced psychosis, can only fester and grow.
