9 Upcoming Video Games You Need To Be Worried About
8. Legacy
If there’s ever a name within the industry that inspires a colossal amount of worry and suspicion, it’s digital snake oil salesman Peter Molyneux. Infamous within gaming circles for his grand speeches promising the impossible and delivering the mundane, the Fable creator’s list of gaming fibs is long enough to make a politician blush.
The latest game from Molyneux’s 22cans studio, which brought us such bizarre disappointments as Curiosity: Whats Inside The Cube? and Godus, is Legacy, a game inspired by the director’s 1984 sim game ‘The Entrepreneur’.
Announced in 2019, the game appears to be one of two halves, starting with a creative sandbox tinkering game as a solitary workman before evolving into a business management sim as said workman becomes more successful. Very little has been disclosed since this initial announcement, and early footage does seem to show off a colourful world with an interesting premise for those of us enthralled by the sim genre.
That said, these are the sort of tentative expectations that were similarly batted about when talking about the painfully underwhelming Godus in the early 2010s, and it does remain to be seen as to whether anything being advertised is a realistic depiction of what exactly is going to be released. Considering that the game is still without a prospective platform and release date after 2 years, and that 22cans underwent an ‘undisclosed number of layoffs’ in 2021. This may be yet another Molyneux game which replaces worry with resigned apathy.
