9 Video Games You Never Thought You'd Get To Play
2. Daikatana
John Romero's brainchild is, much like Duke Nukem Forever, a prime example of just because it could come out, it probably shouldn't. But lo and behold, it did. Was it worth the wait?
Absolutely not.
Daikatana was a testament to delusion, with Romero acting like the proverbial wonderkid and that everything he touched would be gold. Oh, and that we would all be his b*tch too.
Such was his delusion of grandeur and lack of modesty that Daikatana suffered many delays for stupid reasons. Game engine changes, mass resignations from the team (which gave us Deus Ex in the wake of it), Romero's personal hiring choices, you name it.
The whole debacle smacked of gambler's fallacy, with Romero banking on his name and credibility to ride Daikatana high on. It may have had a shorter development period than others on this list, but it was the grandiose nature of it that caught people's attention.
After a weird and wonderful three year development, Daikatana finally came out in 1998... and bombed harder that 100 overly-excited, sunburned fathers in a glistening hotel pool.
