Apex Legends: 10 Best Weapons - Ranked

6. Wingman

The Wingman might be the gun in Apex Legends that feels the best to use. When you fire off a shot you can feel the power that the bullet packs thanks to a meaty metallic sound effect, and when you land a shot, you'll deliver an insane amount of damage no matter which part of the body you hit.

There have been calls from within the Apex Legends community for the Wingman to receive a nerf, due to its ability to down at virtually any range, and the fact that it can scale up to 12 bullets per clip with an extended magazine attachment. It does sound overpowered on paper, but in practice, it's quite hard to land your shots with it, and without that extended magazine, it's tough to beat out an opponent who's using an assault rifle, SMG or shotgun.

Unless your aim is god-tier - which for the majority of players isn't the case - using the Wingman as a main weapon just isn't viable. So, it's best to use it as a "finisher" weapon: initiate all gunfights with your main assault rifle or SMG, then switch to the Wingman instead of reloading.

This way, you'll have already broken the enemy shield when you switch weapons, so will only need to land one or two Wingman shots to down your opponent.

This can be an extremely effective tactic once you get used to switching over reloading, and basically makes the Wingman the best sidearm in the game.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
