As a factor of gaming, it feels as though microtransactions have taken something of a backseat in 2017.

Where every title under the sun was asking you to cough up additional funds for currencies for cosmetic unlocks and stat boosts, this year I'm struggling to think of any major title that even includes the option for them outside of the optional ones in Injustice 2.

Regardless, this is Ubisoft we're talking about, and being they took two years off to work on one of their most expensive franchises, all those bean counters at the top will be wanting to recoup funds as much as possible. Not to mention, For Honor was royally roasted when players found out the only reasonable way to unlock every item was to purchase them separately.

This need to recoup funds is obviously the reason behind the ludicrous £700 special edition, but we're yet to get any confirmation as to whether Ubisoft will be tying their new loot component to microtransactions and paid-for unlocks.
