Assassin's Creed Origins: 11 Early Reactions You Need To Know

8. The Story Isn't Anything Special

All of the early impressions for Origins seem to indicate that the sequel doesn't have a very good plot at the heart of it. Sticking to the conventions of the series, the central narrative makes use of the setting's iconography and politics, but doesn't quite live up to the promise of this epic new Egyptian context.

Apparently the story gets a little more interesting as the game progresses, with strange, supernatural elements adding a bit more intrigue to mix. For the most part though, it sounds like the same old Templars vs Assassins fare that players have been subjected to for the past ten years.

Fortunately, the Assassin's Creed franchise hasn't been about its grand, larger narrative for years, and it's always been the smaller, intimate stories that make the games worth playing. It's a shame Ubisoft once again hasn't been able to spin a compelling main thread, but at least they've still got this quality side content to fall back on.
