Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate - 10 Things It Must Learn From Brotherhood

2. Promote Stealth Rather Than Combat

At their heart, the Assassin's Creed games should be about stealth. There's a lot more satisfaction to be had from stalking a target from the shadows, memorising their movements, waiting for the right time to strike and then disappear off into the night. It feels like a greater accomplishment than just engaging them in a swordfight - as while that's an achievement in its own way, it just doesn't feel the same.

An issue that people took with Brotherhood is that the combat became a bit too easy - there was rarely any danger from taking on even large groups of enemies by yourself, especially with the hidden blade being able to block all but the heaviest weapons. It meant that there was never really any reason to fear being detected and having to fight your way out - unless that was specifically forbidden.

With that in mind, Syndicate needs to introduce a system where the player is penalised somehow for "failing" to assassinate their target using stealth, and being detected. Obviously, nothing too harsh - fighting should be at least a viable option - but otherwise the stealth parts of the game (which are the more interesting parts, anyway) will become more and more infrequent.
