Assassin's Creed Valhalla: 10 HUGE Questions Ubisoft Must Answer
4. Will The Modern Day Be A Bigger Focus Going Forward?
Though it’s become somewhat divisive amongst the fan community, the present-day storyline has been a pivotal part of the series from the start.
Ever since Desmond was revealed to have acquired Eagle Vision at the end of the first game, his own journey to becoming an Assassin and stopping the world from ending was the connective tissue that drove the overarching narrative forward.
That was until the end of Assassin’s Creed III, however, when this ongoing plotline came to a screeching halt following Desmond's death. Moving to the Abstergo offices in Black Flag to miscellaneous cutscenes in Unity and Syndicate, the modern-day aspect of the franchise was all but pushed to the background.
That changed with Origins. We now had a new protagonist in the form of Layla with Odyssey throwing in another piece of the puzzle with the Staff of Hermes. But these games never really went anywhere with Layla’s story, at least not to the same degree as Desmond.
Now that Valhalla’s modern-day plotline has finally picked up where the series left off with Desmond, could this signal the beginning of a new chapter for the modern Assassins vs. Templar saga? Only time will tell.
