Batman Arkham 2020: Every Leak & Rumour You Need To Know
1. The Court Of Owls Play A Central Role
One thing that is practically certain from the early leaks surrounding the new game is that a major role in the story will be played by the Court Of Owls.
Back in September, when everyone was celebrating Batman's 80th birthday, WB Montreal's Batman Day tweet was quote tweeted by Scott Snyder, the creator of the Court in the comics, with his own (rapidly deleted) message that simply read:
"Wait for it... #bewarethecourtofowls."
For those who don't know, the Court Of Owls is a centuries old secret society made up of many leading Gotham families, essentially the Gotham illuminati. They are arguably the most popular new element that has appeared in the Batman canon in the years since the first Arkham game, so would make sense to make their way into the games as well.
Their trained assassins, the Talons, look like a good fit for a game that uses a nemesis system to develop antagonists to hunt the heroes.
For a game concerned with "legacy" the Court Of Owls also includes a good potential for Bruce to deal with some troublesome elements of his own roots, given his parents' possible involvement in the Court.
Speculation already exists about whether the Court will be just one of the factions seeking to "Capture the Knight" or if in fact all the logos revealed in WB Montreal's marketing campaign will come together as aspects of the secret society (the eagle-eyed have spotted talons on that potential GCPD badge, for example).
Either way, it seems like "beware the Court of Owls" might be good advice for gamers in the coming year.
