Since Arkham Asylum first dropped and revolutionised the very idea of a superhero game both through its gruesome portrayal of the characters to some fantastically unique combat, everyone else has been playing catch-up - some would say, with Rocksteady in tow. See, although Arkham City was a solid game, its kitchen-sink approach to villains didn't do any of them justice, not to mention the core plot had you chasing an antidote around, A-to-B-to-A'ing your way between a few locations before having the most deflating encounter ever with Hugo Strange as Ra's Al Ghul just gutted him before anything relating to Bruce's identity could come out. It wasn't a bad game by ANY means, but it wasn't anywhere near the perfected trip through Arkham's underworld that Asylum was. And since then, like the in-game Arkham City itself, the series has definitely had the best intentions but ends up as a bolted-on extension of a core formula that just wasn't designed for mass expansion. What does that mean for the future of the franchise? Well, chances are you already share many of these doubts, and it's time to air them out.
