Set one year after the events of Arkham City, we find Gotham in a state of revitalisation and transformation. The Joker's death within the climax of Arkham City has meant that his frantic wave of destruction has disappeared, while Batman's other foes have struggled to infiltrate Gotham with the same effective and barbaric danger that Joker was able to do so regularly. However, this respite is merely the quiet before the oncoming storm. The Scarecrow has returned to reclaim Gotham as his, and in doing so has provoked a widespread evacuation of the city thanks to the large scale chemical attack. The trailer shows Gotham's residents fleeing for their safety while Batman's foes have remained behind to reclaim what they feel is rightfully theirs. While Scarecrow conducts the madness that ensues, we see the familiar foes of Two Face and Penguin directing carnage and ultimately taking the fight to the police force who struggle to contain the massacre that follows. We see Batman surveying the - his -city, and thus leads into what will hopefully be a compelling, elaborate and engaging story. We've also been told that something is wrong with Bruce Wayne, burdened by the feeling that he and Joker shared a deeper connection that either of them would ever admit. This conflict is a nice addition as it allows us to engage with Bruce Wayne's psyche after his greatest nemesis has gone, and should provide some more personal, quieter moments.
