7. The Combat's Been Honed To Perfection
"Batmans signature strike-and-counter brawling and stealthy predator fights feel better and smoother than ever." - Dan Stapleton, Ign.com "The many tweaks made only reaffirm its status as one of the finest systems in any game. Still focused on striking terror into the heart of your enemy, it's faster, more varied and smoother than before." - Simon Miller, VideoGamer.com
One of the most appealing aspects of the Arkham series has always been Rocksteady's often-imitated-but-never-bettered combat system, which makes guiding the Dark Knight through a veritable hurricane of broken bones, twisted limbs and shattered jaws an absolute joy. Indeed, it's incredibly easy to sink hours and hours into any one of the Arkham games due to the sheer exhilaration of fist-meets-face ass-kickery. Going by the reviews, it seems that Rocksteady have perfected the formula in Arkham Knight with a number of tweaks both big and small - the inclusion of new enemy classes in the form of medics and gatling-wielding brutes places an even greater emphasis on strategic gameplay, forcing you to really dig deep and plan for the long-term. But of course, hordes of new enemies aren't a whole lot of good without some solid new combat mechanics to liven things up and to this end, Batman is now able to perform a number of context-specific actions - from yanking bats out of enemy hands to deliver a swift and brutal beatdown to planting heads in fuse boxes.
